 Capuchos Convent

The noble man, Lourenço Pires de Távora, ordered the construction of the monastery in 1558. A visit to the gardens is a must because of the spectacular view: Cape Espichel, Costa Caparica beaches, Sintra Serra and Bugio Fortress.

 

  • Solar dos Zagallos

In this 18th century country house, you must see the original glazed tiles, stuccoed ceilings and cool walls. The romantic gardens are also worthy of a closer look.

  • King Christ

Built to fulfill the promise made to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Portuguese bishops to save Portugal from World War II. This national monument was inaugurated in 1959.

 

  • Casa da Cerca

This beautiful 18 th century manor, is a contemporary art center where exhibitions are held. From its magnificent gardens it is possible to enjoy the view over Lisbon and Tejo River.

 

 

  • Miradouro and Panoramic Elevator (Jardim do Rio and Naval Museum)

Built to be another quite spot to the Tejo River, from this belvedere you enjoy the view over Lisbon . The panoramic lift takes you 50m down to the River Garden, where you find the Pipa Fountain and the Naval Museum.

 

  • Medieval Museum

The medieval Museum is located in the old town of Almada and it houses a large collection of objects and remains between 12 th and 19 th centuries.

From the scenic overlook of Almada's Castle one can relish the stunning view of Lisbon's seven hills. The fortress was built during the Arab occupation.

  • Frigate D. Fernando II and Glória

This Frigate was the last ship to make the so called India Route. Today, in Cacilhas, it is a witness to Portuguese Maritime History and a school for naval restoration and construction techniques.

This old building from the 14 th century, was an ancient Monk's Estate. The museum tells in a dynamic way the story of the Almada city.

 

  • Protected Landscape from the Top of the Costa da Caparica Fossil

The Coast of Caparica Fossil Cliff an impressive backdrop to the line of the beach. It could almost be called a natural "monument", slowly sculpted by the fantastic hand of erosion.

What to do?

Costa da Caparica is a wonderful place, good for practicing outdoor sports, and of course, the sports connected to the sea. You can rent a bike, play tennis or golf. For those who prefer culture you can also visit the monuments and museums in Almada County. Walking in the historical center of Almada and Cacilhas, get to know the parks and gardens.
